A bit of history...
The University of Dayton is a private, coeducational institution founded in 1850 by the Marianists, a Roman Catholic teaching order with a distinctive philosophy of education. Weve grown from being a small school for boys in the mid 19th century, to our current status of educating men and women as the largest private university in the state of Ohio, and one of the 10 largest Catholic universities in the country. But throughout our history we have been guided by the Marianist values of community, service, and education of the whole person.
This University is open to people of all faiths and backgrounds who seek to develop both competence and a moral center to their lives through participation in a community of learning, leadership, and service.
The buildings on campus blend historical charm with function and modern architectural beauty. A formal environmental design plan is in place for the University, with over $100 million in buildings and equipment to be realized by 2005, when UD celebrates its sesquicentennial150 years of dedication to outstanding education.
