2010 Keynote Speaker

Rev. Dr. Donna Cox

Rev. Dr. Donna Cox is a graduate of Washington University in St. Louis where she received both the Ph.D. and M.M. degrees in Performance Practices: Choral Conducting and the University of Dayton where she earned the Masters in Theological Studies. She is Professor of Music at the University of Dayton where she served as Chair of the Department of Music for seven years and Coordinator of Vocal Activities for seven years prior to that.

Dr. Cox has ministered, performed, studied and taught in various parts of the world including Hawaii, France, Italy and Dublin, Ireland where she and her ensemble opened for the 1998 Tour de France. Dr Cox has performed recitals of African American Arts Songs and Spirituals in Ireland, London and at the National Theatre of Ghana. She enjoys leading small groups in cultural odysseys to Ghana, a place she considers her second home. In addition to studying the vibrant culture of the country, on each trip Dr. Cox seeks to meet some of the needs by distributing school and medical supplies, clothing and other items. She and husband, Gerald have proudly sponsored two of their ‘nephews,’ Jerry and Abraham, in higher education and have been on-going supporters of the Winneba Youth Choir, Dr. Cox’s special project. One of her greatest honors was having a baby girl named for her, Donna Mauwena Dzokoto.

Cox has been a member of Omega Baptist Church since 1993 when she became the Minister of Music. Since vacating that position she has taught Sunday School and founded/conducted the Omega Jubilee Singers. She and Gerald have led the Marriage Builders Ministry for more than ten years. Rev. Cox has a special passion for family/marriage ministry and reaching college students. She is a strong believer in the transformative power of education, especially when it is coupled with the knowledge of God as savior. Her personal ministry philosophy grows out of Romans 12:2 Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God's will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will. Rev. Cox has been married to Gerald Cox for over 27 years. They are the proud parents of two adult children, Jonathan and Jamie and grandparents to Hezekiah.

Dr. Cox is also the author of Angels Encamped About Me: Provision In the Wilderness.
