Port Security
Port security is a new feature of the network that allows only 1 physical address on a given port at a given time. That means that only 1 computer can be on a port. Any hubs, switches, or routers will no longer function on the network. If for some reason you have one of these devices connected, the port will shut down, and it will appear to the computer as if your cable is unplugged. Also, if you were to switch the computer on a given port to quickly, it can sometimes fool the system in to thinking that you have multiple computers connected, so always allow about 5 minutes before connecting a new machine to a port. The port will shut down for about 15 minutes after multiple devices have been connected to it, however, if it does not come back up you will need to contact the help desk.
Cisco Clean Access
Clean access is a new system that forces you to log in to the network. This system is in place for network security from potential attacks by viruses and spyware. Until you log in to clean access (Using your Novell/LDAP username and password) you will only be able to access on campus network information. As soon as you try to access the internet through a browser, you will be redirected to a login screen(Similar to the wireless login of old). When you log in through this screen you will have full access to the internet.
