Sexual assault is a crime of violence; one in which sex is used as a weapon, to
intimidate, control and humiliate the victim.
Sexual assault is about violence and power; it is NOT sex.
A person NEVER "asks" to be assaulted.
Sexual assault is NEVER the fault of the victim.
A person is NOT assaulted because of provocative clothes, walk, or appearance.
A person CAN be assaulted by someone she/he knows; even a current dating partner
or someone dated in the past.
A person CAN be assaulted by someone with whom they are currently in a sexual
relationship or with whom they have had a past sexual relationship.
1 out of every 4 college women are victims of rape or attempted rape.
57% of rapes on college campuses occur on dates.
About 75% of the men and at least 55% of the women involved in acquaintance
rapes had been drinking or taking drugs just before the attack.
Sexual assaults is one of the most under reported violent crimes.
