Application Process
If you are interested in applying for one or more of the chair positions on the NSO Student Leadership Team listed below:
- Download and complete the application form.
- As part of your application, you will need to request two recommendations, at least one of which must be from a faculty or staff person at UD. Please be courteous to those from whom you are requesting a reference, and give them enough time to thoughtfully complete the recommendation form.
- Return the application form to the Office of New Student Orientation (Gosiger 210) by 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday, October 15, 2008. References must also be turned into the same place by this deadline.
We will review your application and recommendations and contact you by e-mail. If you’ve been selected for an interview, the e-mail will include a link to a page where you will be able to schedule your interview time.
Interviews for the Leadership Chair positions are tentatively scheduled to begin the week of October 27. Interviews for the rest of the chair positions will tentatively take place during the week of November 10.
General Eligibility and Qualifications for All Chair Positions
All chairs must possess the following qualities:
- Full-time undergraduate student
- Minimum 3.0 GPA and in good standing with the university
- Knowledgeable about UD
- Committed to Catholic and Marianist Philosophy of Community Living at UD
- Prior leadership experience, as well as an understanding of what it means to be a servant leader
- Passion for serving new students and creating an excellent NSO experience
- Strengths include:
- Strong organizational skills
- Able to work with diverse people across campus
- Able to build teams and to make a contribution as a teammate
- Strong interpersonal and communication (oral and written) skills
- Focused and determined, but flexible
- Energetic and positive
- Able to work well under pressure and solve problems
- Able to manage multiple tasks, projects, and commitments
- Attentive to details
- Willing to learn
All chairs must also be available to:
- Attend the NSO Student Leadership Team Retreat, November 21-22
- Return to campus two weeks early (on August 10) to finalize NSO plans
- Work during NSO Welcome Family Training (August 20-21), UD Transitions (August 21-22), and NSO (August 22-25) as needed
General Position Requirements for All Chairs
Position-specific requirements follow. All chairs will be expected to:
- Serve as a contributing member of the NSO student leadership team (respecting and valuing team members, attending meetings, responding in a timely manner to communication, consulting with other execs about plans, etc.)
- Work in partnership with staff and faculty throughout the university to carry out the goals of NSO
- Support team members during NSO and help with programs and events
- Offer input into NSO dialogues (topics, structure, etc.)
- Create teams that support your area’s work before and during NSO
