Our goal is to provide a safe learning and living environment for all
of our campus community.
In these times of rapid social and technological change the challenges
to the law enforcement community both, in the university and municipal
environments, have been significant. We are in a constant state of
adjustment in order to keep up with the demanding changes in the judicial
and legal system, along with meeting the changing needs of our community.
Some of the major projects we are involved in include the
implementation of the door access system throughout the campus. As we
continue to expand this program, we will reduce the need for keys on
campus and increase the level of accountability for access and security.
We are also in the process of developing a comprehensive campus wide
Emergency Response Plan. I have been designated as the Emergency
Coordinator with Tim O’Connell and Robin Oldfield Co-Chairing the steering
committee for the overall plan. The plan includes fourteen subcommittees
with representation from all aspects of the campus. The plan will provide
procedures and protocol for our community to effectively deal with the
mitigation, planning, response and recovery of any major critical incident
that may occur on campus.
The Department of Public Safety provides police services, parking
services and emergency medical services. The Division of Parking Services
continues to expand and improve our on-line parking registration program.
We are also researching alternative parking solutions and the feasibility
of implementing a campus wide shuttle service.
Our Student Volunteer Rescue Squad is the only two-time recipient of
the National Collegiate EMS Foundation’s "TOP ORGANIZATION" award. Our
police officers are also certified to provide emergency medical services.
In addition to police, parking and emergency medical services, we also
operate the Student Cadet Program. The cadets provide student security for
various assignments and staffing for the campus escort service.
