The team played in what might be the first of several tournaments this summer on June 14. Pa, Klug, Pangle, Bob, Quinn, Flags, and Nick traveled from all over to assemble in Chicago. With minimal 7s experience between the players and no practice since April, no one knew what to expect. However, the team had an easy first opponent to warm them up. The Chicago Riot failed to take advantage of their experience and size advantage in a 41-7 loss. Dayton won the game easily, but wasted a lot of energy in the process. Game two was a little more difficult. UD won only managed to win 19-7. Most of the players were beginning to understand the concept of being patient on offense at this point. Dave Koehneman, serving as coach because of an injury, was pleased with everyone except for the team's fastest player, Jim "Pacman" Paszczykowski. However, in the third pool play game, Pacman began to utilize his speed correctly and led Dayton to a convincing 38-5 win. Fatigue was setting in, so the team refueled with lunch during the break. In the semifinals, UD took on St. Paul's from Minnesota. Dayton won 26-5 to make the final. The final seemed to start promising for UD. Dayton took the kickoff and swung the ball left where Quinn was pulled down from behind at midfield. After reversing fields though, Bob Schuster appeared to give UD an early lead with a long try. The ref made a questionable call to say he as held up in the try zone. To make matters worse, Quinn was down injured back at midfield. With only the injured coach as a 7th man, it certainly turned into the Condor's game to lose. Led by a former Eagle, they quickly scored a try. Pacman had two tries, but in the end it wasn't enough as UD succumbed to a 21-10 loss. All of the original 7 players scored on the day. Flags and Nick made a majority of the tackles. Pacman, Bob, and Quinn scored most of the tries. Pangle and Klug were forced into distributor roles for most of the day, but they took their chances when they had them. The team hopes to play in Cincinatti next week, but laziness and poor planning runs rampant on this roster so we'll see. Team picture coming soon...
