The most visible club team on UD’s campus is no doubt the men’s rugby team. Probably less known, however, is the fact that the team is also one of the best on campus.

This weekend, the team will travel to Cincinnati to represent the Midwest at the Collegiate Division II National Championships. The team won the Ohio Rugby Championships earlier in the year in order to advance to a playoff against Slippery Rock University. Because of winning that game, the team advanced to the National Championship.

"This week has been just been great," said sophomore member Garret Prom.

UD will be seeded fifth in the eight-team tournament and will open the tournament with a game on Friday at noon against the fourth seed, Yale University, the Northeast Champions.

Each team is guaranteed at least three games in the tournament.

Prom thinks the team’s success will help to bolster its popularity.

"I’m hoping it will help to get more guys interested in the team as well as get fans to come out to the games," he said.

UD finished the regular season with a perfect fall record of 11-0 and a spring record of 5-2. Their only losses came against Ohio University and Scioto Valley in the Ohio Wesleyan Tournament.
