The UD men’s rugby team wanted to avenge their first loss of the season last week heading into their tournament at Ohio Wesleyan.

In the first game, the Flyers were matched against state rival Bowling Green State University. The opponent was no match, however, as UD dominated from the beginning and won 39-0. Sophomore Bill Eger, freshman Chuck DeRee, and junior Ben Dietsch each scored twice for UD. Sophomore Garret Prom knew the Flyers would come out ready.

"Right off the bat, we drove down the field and scored right away," he said. "We maintained our intensity throughout the game because we wanted to redeem ourselves."

In the second game of the tournament, the Flyers were paired against the SciotoValley Men’s Club. The team is a mix of former rugby players in college and current students at The Ohio State University. UD’s team was overmatched throughout, and lost 21-0.

Prom said Scioto's experience was important.

"There are pretty much no excuses," he said. "We played aggressive, but they have a lot more experience than we do."

Prom explained the importance of having a veteran team.

"The Scioto Valley team had greater experience and technique which is very important in rugby," he said. "The majority of the teams we play have about the same experience as we do.

After going a perfect 11-0 in the fall season, the rugby team is now 2-2 in the spring.
