OU got on the board first to make the score 5-0, but UD answered that with a score of their own when sophomore Garrett Prom reached pay dirt. OU scored again to regain the lead, 10-5, and this time UD didn’t have any answers. Time ran out on UD’s run of perfection. The team moved to 12-1 with the loss. Since Founders Field was still covered in snow after a midweek snowfall, it made even an all-conditions sport treacherous. Sophomore Matt Orso admits the weather may have had some effect on the team’s play. "We didn’t feel we played well," Orso said. "I think the weather was a factor, but that’s not an excuse." Earlier this season the Flyers defeated OU in a close affair. Orso thinks UD didn’t get a chance to show what they could do this time around. "We feel we played our worst game of the season," Orso said. Still, he thinks the team may find some benefit from this unexpected loss. "We needed this wake up call," Orso said. The Flyers have played two games in the spring season. On Feb. 20 they easily handled St. Louis University on the road. Despite a poor showing, UD won 34-0. In that game, UD scored eight early points before going on a scoreless streak for much of the first half. They turned it up in the second and dispatched SLU. Next up for the Flyers is The Ohio Wesleyan Tournament in Delaware. The Tournament will feature eight teams including Xavier and a number of Division II schools. Orso is confident the team can regroup and perform well in the tourney. "We should win that," he said. "We just have to have some good practices and play like we know how. We’re a lot better than that (Friday’s game)." |
