The University of Dayton has had a strong seven's season this summer. The team finished second in the Elkhart, Indiana Qualifier and first in the Cleveland Rock n Roll 7s Qualifier. Their only letdown was in Chicago where they failed to advance from the first round.
The team is composed of mostly current UD players, and a few alumni. The current UD players are Dave Klug (2), Dave Koehneman (10), Jack Brennan (7), Jim Paszczykowski (11), Bob Schuster (14) Steve Pangle (12). The alumni include Steve Friedman (12), Shea Allen (15), and Adam Friedermann (9). The team also has two guest players, Vytas Kapacinskas (12) from Tulane and Pete Friedermann (15) from the Rovers.
Overall, the team has a record of 9-3 in the tournaments. The team has notable wins against the Super League's Chicago Lions and Division One teams including Buffalo and the Cincinnati Wolfhounds. Two of the three losses came at the Lions' hands and the third was against Kalamazoo.
The Midwest Championship is July 25th in Elkhart. Currently, UD is tied for the third seed in the tournament. The top three finishers in Elkhart advance to Nationals. Regardless of the Championship results, the team is very pleased with its performance and hopes to carry over this success into the 15s season.
