to the Department of Religious Studies
Undergraduate Program. The Department of
Religious Studies is a community of scholars
committed to understanding and elucidating
religious tradition, particularly
exemplified in Roman Catholic beliefs and
practices and in conversation with those of
the Christian denominations and with
Judaism, Hinduism, Islam and Buddhism.
Introductory coursework in Religious Studies
encourages students to critically examine
their own faith and vocation as they
participate in scholarly study of the
practices, beliefs, and history of these
religious traditions. As Religious Studies
majors, students develop stronger skills in
reading, interpreting, and communicating
about religious texts and ideas and, in more
structured ways, they are guided in the
application of their knowledge to studies of
local and global religious contexts.
Students minoring in religious studies must
complete 18 semester hours in the Department
of Religious Studies. At least 12 semester
hours are to be at the 300-400 level. At
least 3 semester hours are to be at the 400
level. |
