STUDENT EMPLOYMENT POSITION DESCRIPTIONS

Aquatics

Lifeguard- Involves guarding the lives of the patrons who use the pool and ensuring the safety of everybody in the facility. Lifeguards must be team players. You will represent the lifeguard staff and the Department of Campus Recreation in a professional, mature manner.  Lifeguards must be American Red Cross certified.

Swim Instructor - Are responsible for teaching children and adult swim lessons in the Learn to Swim Program for the Department of Campus Recreation.  Classes are American Red Cross Parent Tot and Level 1-6 and Beginning and Intermediate Adults.  ARC Water Safety Instructor certification is preferred.

 

Facilities

RecPlex Attendant - This position may require various job responsibilities at Equipment Issuance and the Welcome Desk including checking ID’s, equipment issuance and inventory, facility tours, selling of guest passes, and daily facility paperwork.

RecPlex Manager - The student manager of the RecPlex carries much responsibility. They oversee the operations of the facility while they are on duty, and ensure the proper usage of the facility and safety for patrons. They are responsible for the opening and closing of the facility, reporting problems, safety concerns, issues with patrons, etc.

 

Daily Operations Crew - The daily operations crew for the RecPlex involves routine maintenance around the facility and the setup and takedown of equipment as necessary. The hours are very flexible depending on what needs to be done on a daily basis. The job may involve daytime, evening or even weekend shifts. It requires a highly self-motivated person who is capable of performing the job requirement and working on their own.

 

Student Office Assistant - This position is one of the most prominent relational service components within the Department of Campus Recreation. The student office assistant greets and serves participants in matters regarding Campus Recreation programs and facility events at the RecPlex. They collect all program area fees and charges along with managing phone calls and assisting with payroll. The student office assistant also performs clerical tasks pertaining to Campus Recreation.

 

Fitness

Fitness Center Attendant - Responsible for supervising the Fitness Center in the RecPlex, which includes cardio equipment, weight equipment, and three group fitness studios. Campus Recreation provides a great atmosphere in which to work. Hours are flexible, paid training is available, and advancement opportunities exist within the program, as well as the Department. Training sessions are held to prepare students at the beginning of each semester. CPR and First Aid individuals are preferred.

Group Fitness Instructor - Group fitness instructors design and lead one or many different type of classes. Individuals are preferred to be certified by a nationally accredited organization within a year of hire, if not already. CPR and First Aid certifications are preferred. A series of auditions are required in addition to

Personal Trainer - The personal training program offers  only certified Personal Trainers positions. Personal Trainers must be certified through a nationally accredited organization. CPR and First Aid certified individuals are preferred. PT Requirements

 

Intramurals

Officials - Officiating can be demanding and challenging at times, but there are few student positions that involve the mix of responsibility, leadership, decision-making, athleticism and public relations skills that are necessary in sports and officiating. No experience is necessary! All that is necessary is a desire to learn, appositive attitude, and a willingness to have fun. The hours are flexible, paid training is available, and advancement opportunities exist within the program, as well as the department. Training sessions are held to prepare all student officials at the beginning of each sports season.

 

Climbing Wall Supervisor - This position is responsible for overseeing and managing the daily operations of the climbing wall, and ensuring the safety of the climbers who use the wall.  Safety is the number one priority on the wall, therefore knowledge of proper climbing techniques, usage of equipment, belaying techniques, and emergency skills are a must. Climbing wall supervisors must be mature and responsible and must be able to deal with people in a firm, confident, & professional but friendly manner.

 

Youth and Family

RecKids Camp Counselor - RecKids camp is a day camp hosted by Campus Recreation. Responsibilities for RecKids Counselor include number one campers safety, planning and leading daily activities, communicating with camp administration and having FUN FUN FUN!!!! RecKids Administrative Assistant - A camp administrative assistant can expect to gain experience and knowledge in planning, organizing, and implementing a summer day camp, as well as managerial experience. There primary function is to provide support in the daily operations of our summer kids camp.  The community programming philosophy is to create activities that promote a safe, social, and fun recreation environment for the families of the University of Dayton and the Dayton community. This position may also provide program support for other community programming offered during the summer. This position may serve as an excellent internship opportunity for students seeking such an experience.
