Rush is strictly defined as "a process by which fraternities select new members." It is a time when one goes to various fraternity houses, meets members and finds out what each group has to offer.
Rush is a process of mutual selection. As the rushee is examining and evaluating the fraternity, the fraternity members are determining whether or not the rushee has the potential to be a good member of their particular group.
When you first arrived at UD you may have been slightly bewildered by the Ghetto and felt somewhat lost. You can not possibly hope to really get to know the thousands of students on this campus. Through rush you will meet many new people. Some of them may end up as lifelong friends, and really, aren't friends what life is all about?
It is very difficult to find out what fraternity is all about and whether or not it is right for you during the very short formal rush period. That is the reason this webpage was designed. It is to give you, the rushee, and idea of what the Greek system is like and how we at Phi Sig participate in it.

Why a fraternity? There are numerous benefits you will derive as a member of a national fraternity both during and after your college years.
Fraternity membership offers a unique experience in college living; being "Greek" offers an identity in the mass of thousands of students that attend UD. In addition, it offers opportunities for success in academic social, and athletic endeavors.
You will develop many acquaintances in college; you'll know each as members of the same class or having been on the football team together. Even without fraternity you may develop a few of these acquaintances into friendships. But true friendships evolve by sharing common experiences and challenges with others; whether it is on the athletic field, helping a brother with homework, preparing the house for an event or simply living under the same roof in harmony.
This microcosm of life we call fraternity creates a brotherhood of friendships that truly last a lifetime.
Fraternities serve a purpose not fulfilled by the University or by the dorms or by the apartments. It provides us, its members, with the opportunity to live and work together toward a common goal. Personal success in virtually all fields of endeavor requires the skills of living and working with others. Fraternities offer us the opportunities to develop these skills.
Now it is your turn. Your college experience will occur only once in your life. A fraternity experience will enrich your undergraduate years on campus, as well as offer you a common bond that will stay with you long after your college days are over.

WHAT MAKES PHI SIGMA KAPPA UNIQUE OR DIFFERENT FROM OTHER NATIONAL FRATERNITIES?
While all fraternities subscribe to a strong set of values and ideals, Phi Sigma Kappa actively promotes to and educates its members on incorporating those values into their daily lives. Our creative and unique educational initiatives for leadership development are a step ahead of many other groups. The Fraternity holds and annual undergraduate leadership and training conference each summer for over 300 chapter officers, as well as an annual emerging leaders conference for a select group of our top student leaders. The Fraternity also holds seven regional leadership training institutes around the United States each January that attracts nearly 600 student members. In addition to providing information on undergraduate chapter management, our regional and national conferences touch base on topics like career planning, values and ethics, leadership development, personal financial planning, community service and scholarship.

WHAT ABOUT HAZING?
Phi Sigma Kappa has taken a very strong stand on the issue of hazing, as well as other risk management issues. Our national policies state that any chapter caught hazing will be closed. Hazing practices and activities are a thing of the past, and have no relevance or purpose in today's fraternity environment, let alone in Phi Sigma Kappa itself. For a complete summary of the Fraternity's position on issues of risk management, please check out the " Risk management " section of the web site.

ACADEMICS / SCHOLARSHIPS
You owe it to yourself and your family to acquire the best education possible. The influences and guidance of your family may have helped you through the first twelve years of your education-but now you are pretty much on your own.
Statistics show that a greater proportion Greeks complete their college education than do non-Greeks.
We want members who take their education seriously. UD Requires that you must have a minimum 2.0 GPA to become an affiliate member of the Eta Hexaton chapter.
Your responsibilities to your chapter and to your other extracurricular activities are tempered with the guidance and encouragement to keep your grades at a level which will reflect well on yourself and your fraternity.
Annually the Phi Sigma Kappa Foundation awards many undergraduate scholarships and grants to individual brothers.
Our large alumni organization of over 400 men serve as an excellent source of career information and networking possibilities. Our quarterly alumni newsletter is available as a resource for contacting other brothers in the industries you are seeking employment. A number of our brothers have had experience in college recruiting for their companies and are willing to share their knowledge of important classes to take and successful interviewing techniques.

SOCIAL / ATHLETIC
Among the more enjoyable aspects of fraternity life are the social opportunities it offers its members. Our social calendar holds a wide selection of events. We hold a formal dinner-dance and Founders' Day celebration each spring. During the year we participate in Greek Week activities and hold many informal mixers with a variety of campus sororities. Besides the organized social calendar, there are unscheduled, spontaneous "gatherings" at the chapter house which help break up the daily routine of classes.
College offers you athletics as a spectator, but fraternities offer you athletics as a participant. Fraternities are a major part of the intramural program at UD and Phi Sigma Kappa is an active participant. Over the past few years we have had consistently successful athletic teams.
Participation in athletics is an excellent way to develop not only physical skills, but spirit, sportsmanship, and teamwork as well .

The basic initiate (membership) fee currently totals $300, plus a $50 risk management fee that provides liability insurance coverage under the national fraternity's insurance program. The basic initiation fee is a one time charge, and provides you with life-long membership in the organization. Membership in the Fraternity is somewhat an intangible benefit, as the experiences, opportunities, activities and events, and friendships you have and make can never be determined with a price tag.
