Pro-lifers are always saying "Abortion Kills Children." But,
Is the Being in the Womb a Real Child?
What does
Science tell us?
What does the child in the womb
look like?
Is life throughout the first 9 months really a
Continuum ?

Implantation?

Is the human embryo a
"Fertilized Egg"?
All of the following
Objections and Replies to the zygote's personhood are addressed in this very interesting section.

  • "The zygote cannot be a human person because IT IS TOO SMALL.
  • "THE ZYGOTE LACKS A STRUCTURE that must be present for us to be able to speak of a person."
  • "But THE ZYGOTE IS NOT CONSCIOUS, he cannot think, and he cannot communicate. How can he be a person?"
  • "The zygote cannot be a person because HE DOESN'T LOOK LIKE a human person."
  • "The zygote cannot be a human person because HE DOES NOT EVEN HAVE THE CAPACITY FOR CONSCIOUSNESS."
  • "The zygote is ONLY A BLUEPRINT FOR A HUMAN BEING."
  • "JUST AS AN ACORN IS NOT AN OAK TREE, so the zygote is not a human person."
  • "To be a human person, one must be indivisible, a unity. THE ZYGOTE IS NOT INDIVISIBLE, therefore it is not a person."
  • "HUMAN LIFE NEVER BEGINS, except once, long ago. The sperm, the ovum, and the zygote are all froms of human life."
  • "There is NO SUCH THING AS THE MOMENT OF CONCEPTION, since conception is a process."
  • "If we revere and protect fertilized eggs, WHY NOT ALSO UNFERTILIZED EGGS AND SPERM?"
  • "Some entities that stem from the union of sperm and egg are not human beings, why protect all of them?"
  • "If and when human cloning occurs, is this not a human life because it did not come from the union of the sperm and egg?"
  • "Granting all this, isn't it possible that a person does not come into being until a soul is infused?"
  • "What can science establish about this issue?"
  • "Does some 'contraception' function to destroy the zygote?"
  • "What is the significance of establishing conception as the beginning of human existance?"
  • So then, Is the Zygote a Person? Are we prepared to say that a "fertilized egg" has full human rights?

"The being in the womb may be HUMAN, but it is not a PERSON. Being a person in the human community means more than biological humanity." (The agrument of Mary Ann Warren)
What is the relevance of Being a Person and Functioning as a Person.
    Is
    Human Merely a Biological Category?
    Is the fetus only a
    Potential Person?
    Are only those humans who
ACHIEVE certain things fully persons? Is defining personhood by functionality a valid discinction?
    Is it true that
    every human person has dignity?
"Doesn't a woman have the Right to Control her Own Body?"
A woman has "No Duty to Sustain" the fetus. (The Thomson-Bolton argument).
What is the significance of the
Special Relation Between a Woman and her Child?
"The child can be treated as
an Intruder in the Woman's Body." (Thomson's agrument).
If the woman has a right over her body, does
The Child Have the Right over his Body?
"Abortion can't be a 'Horror' as pro-lifers say, because it is A Complex Issue."
What if we look at the actual Results of Abortion?
    Can we really speak of
    The Abortion Holocaust?
How could such a horror be tolerated in a civilized society, as pro-lifers claim?
    Wasn't
The Example of Slavery also thought of as a "complex issue"?
    Isn't abortion
    A Woman's Choice?
Will abortion still be a horror with
    An Abortion Pill?
I don't like abortion, but I think it is justified in Cases of Rape, Incest, Health and Life of the Woman.
Why would abortion be wrong in the case of Rape?
    But,
the Case of Rape is Different.
When it comes down to it, what is
Abortion in the Case of Rape?

    Help the Woman?
How does abortion really effect the problem of the woman who is raped?
