DEPARTMENT OF POLITICAL SCIENCE
Government and Legal Internships
Government internships provide students with a unique opportunity to experience first hand career opportunities in the public sector. The purpose of these internships is to expose students to how government “really’ works at the local, state or national levels.
Three different internships are available to students during their undergraduate studies:
Washington Center/Washington, DC Internships: Provide students with experience working in public service positions at the national level. Possible placements include: Congress, White House, federal agencies, national party organizations, public interest groups, and lobbying firms.
State and Local Internships: Provide students with experience in the public sector at the state and local level. State internships involve internships with state level officials, agencies or public interest groups. Local internships include placements with area local governments and non-profit interest groups.
Legal Internships: Provide exposure to Political Science majors considering law school. Students will be placed in an internship with a local law firm or may opt to intern with a local, state or federal court. Efforts will be made to place students into internships that match their legal interests, but this cannot be guaranteed.
