Research in Progress

My most recent focus has been on issues of energy, “peak oil” and global climate change.  I am looking at how to reconcile current predictions for remaining amounts of finite fossil-fuel resources with the emissions scenarios produced by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change.

The effort being carried out in my laboratory is centered on diode laser spectroscopy of oxygen, with the aim of making measurements of the linestrengths and absolute frequencies of the near-infrared A-band transitions and of the visible wavelength B-band transitions.  In addition to the experimental work carried out in my laboratory I have maintained a collaboration with Dr. Perry Rice of Miami University and Dr. Leno Pedrotti of the University of Dayton in the field of theoretical quantum optics. We are continuing to investigate quantum dynamical effects of a few atoms in an optical cavity.
