Some strawbale construction photos. (Yellow Springs, OH - Aug. 2004 - Mar. 2005)

Start by framing the house and roof

Next lay out the radiant floor heating system

After the slab is poured, use a ferrous sulfate stain; this will be the interior floor surface

Now the strawbale walls are "installed".  A great community project!

Continued work preparing for the plaster...

First coat of earth plaster (sand, clay, chopped straw, water)

Finishing up the earth plaster work

Solar hot water collectors installed on the roof

Some of the mechanicals to go with the solar collectors and the 400-gallon storage tank.

An interior view

And another view.  Wall paint is homemade (fine clay, sand, casein, flour).

A third interior view.  Trim is reclaimed barn siding.
