POSITION DESCRIPTION AND DUTIES

The Department of Communication Studies at Baruch College, the City University of New York, seeks applicants for a full time lecturer position to begin in fall, 2010. This position is a one year appointment, potentially renewable on re-appointment for five years with the possibility of appointment to a permanent position (Certificate of Continuous Employment) at the end of that period. Baruch College, located in midtown Manhattan, is a senior college of the City University of New York, and is recognized as the most diverse college in the nation. The Department of Communication Studies offers a B.A. in Business Communication, with a specialization in Corporate Communication, and an M.A. in Corporate Communication. The department fields a wide range of courses, including speech communication, argumentation, persuasion, intercultural communication, interpersonal communication, international communication, media studies, crisis communication, legal and ethical issues in corporate communication, writing for public relations and corporate media relations. QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

A Bachelor's degree is required for an appointment as Lecturer. The ideal candidate will have a graduate level degree in communication or a related area and considerable teaching experience in communication studies, and should demonstrate expertise in at least two of the following areas of specialization: public relations, new media, business communication, corporate or organizational communication. The successful candidate will be expected to contribute to our undergraduate and graduate programs in Corporate Communication, as well as to a minor in Communication Studies.

Strategic Communications — Public Relations

The Frank W. and Sue Mayborn School of Journalism at the University of North Texas in Denton invites applications for a tenure-track or tenured strategic communications/public relations position beginning Fall 2010 at the assistant, associate or full professor rank. The position involves teaching public relations writing, ethics and law in strategic communications, and other courses as needed by the school, as well as providing role models for and mentoring a diverse student population.

 

Required qualifications include terminal degree (Ph.D. or ABD preferred) in journalism or related field, professional experience in public relations, and college-level teaching experience appropriate to rank. Preferred qualifications include knowledge of social media and digital communications, experience teaching publicity campaigns with real-world clients, experience working with diverse communities, and academic publications and a clear research agenda appropriate to rank. ABDs will be considered for non-tenure track appointment, convertible to tenure-track upon completion of the doctorate.
