Lowell Putnam Competition (held in
December 2009) are in: Four students,
Cain, Joshua Craven, Charlie Suer and Yi Zhao,

- Dr. Youssef Raffoul has been promoted to Professor,
and Dr. Ruihua Liu has been tenured and promoted to
Associate Professor (all effective August 16, 2010).
- Senior Charlie Suer
presented the poster,
Coloring Game on Certain Outerplanar Graphs, at the Joint Mathematics Meetings
in San Francisco. Charlie was
presenting results obtained during his REU experience at
Linfield University last summer.
- Dr. Lynne Yengulalp
joins the department as an
assistant professor. Dr. Yengulalp has a PhD from the
University of Kansas, and she holds an MS and a BS in
mathematics from Miami University.
The recipient of the 2009 Faculty Award
for Excellence is Megan Johns. Megan is a double
major: mathematics and biology. She is also a
co-winner of the P. K. Bajpai Undergraduate Research
Award which goes to the undergraduate student who best
represents the spirit of undergraduate research in biology.
The recipient of the 2009 Pi Mu Epsilon Award is
Joshua Cain. This is an award for excellence among
second year students in mathematics.

Stone. This award for excellence goes to a graduating
senior in the teacher licensure program with a principal
teaching field in mathematics.
Danielle Carleton is co-winner of the
Dr. E. B.
O’Leary Award of Excellence. Danielle was a double
major: mathematics and economics. This award goes to the
outstanding senior majoring in economics.

the national mathematics honorary society.
- Dr. Aparna Higgins
has been named Director of
Project NExT (New Experiences in Teaching), a
professional development program of the Mathematical
Association of America for new and recent PhDs in the
mathematical sciences. her five-year term begins in August
