The Department of Mathematics is saddened by the
death of Stanley J. Back, Emeritus Professor,
who died on November 22, 2014. He was 78 years
Dr. Aparna Higgins ended her long service on the
leadership team of Project NExT (New Experiences
in Teaching) in August 2014.
The co-recipients of the 2014 Faculty Award for
Excellence are seniors Daniel Esposito and
The Department of Mathematics hosts the 12th annual Integration Bee in conjunction with the Brother Joseph W. Stander Symposium on April 9, 2014.

in April 2014:
The UD Math Club hosts the 18th Annual High School Math Competition on March 22, 2014.
Dr. Wiebke Diestelkamp has been promoted to Professor, and Dr. Maher Qumsiyeh has been tenured and promoted to Associate Professor, effective Fall 2014.
Dr. Aparna Higgins
received the Mathematical
Association of America Certificate of Meritorious Service at the
Joint Mathematics Meetings in Baltimore in January 2014.
The following students have been inducted to the
Dayton's Ohio Zeta Chapter of Pi Mu Epsilon in May 2013:
Dr. Muhammad Usman has been granted tenure and promotion to Associate Professor, and Dr. Atif Abueida has been promoted to Professor, effective Fall 2013.
The co-recipients of the 2013 Faculty Award for Excellence are Lydia Kindelin and Chester Lian.
The 2013 recipient of the department's Award of Excellence in Support of Mathematics is Alyssa Lesko.
The recipient of the 2013 Brother Joseph W.
Stander, S.M., Award of Excellence goes to Alan Rozanski. This award
of excellence goes to a graduating senior in the teacher licensure
program with a principal teaching field in mathematics.
