New Frontiers In Religious Education:

A Collaborative Project of:
The National Catholic Educational Association
The National Association of Parish Catechetical Directors
The Institute for Pastoral Initiatives of The University of Dayton

Desired Outcomes:
  • That the New FIRE project enriches and expands our catechetical ministries understanding of the meaning of social communications for effective ministry.
  • That the New FIRE project influences the development of a Theology of Communication for Catechesis.
  • That the New FIRE project contribute to a deeper understanding of the relationship of faith, media and culture for the 21st century. That catechists become knowledgeable about the meaning and impact of the infomedia culture particularly in light of our catechetical ministry in the 21st century.
  • That catechists grow in understanding and application of infomedia resources and technologies for catechetical ministry.
  • That catechists develop basic skills to incorporate infomedia resources and technologies into their catechetical ministry experiences where and when relevant or necessary.
  • That an expanding network of catechists familiar and skillful in the infomedia culture commence the design of alternative approaches for teaching and learning in the 21st century.
  • That expanding collaborative efforts between parish and school in the designing of new infomedia infrastructure/plans to be compatible and integrated into all the ministries of the parish.
  • That new faith communities of learners be explored and formed in cyberspace.
  • That New FIRE teams influence the design and production of infomedia resources that support and enhance the catechetical ministry of the Church.
  • That the New FIRE projects influence a new preparation of catechists and catechetical leaders living within the infomedia culture of the 21st century.

Audience:

Catechists, Catechetical, Parish and Diocesan Leaders associated with the catechetical and evangelization efforts of the Church.

Participant Fee:

Partial scholarships are awarded to all the individual/teams selected to participate in New FIRE.
Participants are expected to pay their own travel expenses and a small participation fee.

Tetative 2002 New FIRE Agenda: Will be available in early 2002



General Overview of the activities of the New FIRE Project:

New FIRE teams are required to make a six-month commitment to the project. The elements of the project are:

  • To participate in the June 2002 conference
  • To be active participants of the six month network, developing a specific plan of action for the parish and/or diocese
  • To be an active participant on the New FIRE Interactive Website Discussion Boards
  • To participate in one of two audioconference calls
  • To produce a final project or experience which supports the design of new paradigms for catechetics in teaching and learning within the parish and/or diocese. (Due April 1, 2003)
  • Active Participation in the New Frontiers In Religious Education Conference and completion of New FIRE Action Plan.
