DEPARTMENT: Academics-Athletics POSTING DATE: May 17, 2006 POSITION TITLE: Academic Coordinator (A) POSITION IS: Full time/40 hours per week/12 months HIRING RANGE: Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience DATE AVAILABLE: June 2006
BRIEF JOB DESCRIPTION:
The Academic Coordinator for Athletics reports to the Associate Provost and works closely with the Associate AD, FAR, and other academic support programs on campus. The Academic Counselor is responsible for providing academic counseling and monitoring the academic progress and athletics eligibility of men’s basketball and other assigned sport programs; and mentoring academically “at-risk” student-athletes to accommodate the academic needs of those who may be under-prepared to compete academically.
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING REQUIREMENTS:
Master’s degree required; Doctorate degree preferred. Minimum three years related experience working with diverse groups of students, preferably college student—athletes. Must present excellent written and verbal communication skills, be detail oriented, and display strong organizational and record keeping skills. Successful candidate will also have a solid working knowledge of NCAA rules.
