LEADERSHIP
One of the greatest opportunities in college is to develop leadership skills and to apply these skills in practical situations. Fraternity/Sorority life at UD promotes, encourages and provides experiences in leadership development. Each chapter is self-governed and offers its members the opportunity to learn and improve leadership skills through chapter participation and campus involvement.
SERVICE
One of the most gratifying aspects of fraternity and sorority life is the sense of satisfaction and pride that comes through ones involvement in community service. Fraternities and sororities at the University of Dayton have recognized this need and are actively involved in service projects both on and off campus. Throughout the year, the chapter members donate time and raise money for philanthropic agencies and their own special projects. On average, UD fraternities and sororities donate more than 10,000 hours and $10,000 to local and national community service organizations. Whether raising funds or volunteering time, service to others is an important component of the fraternity/sorority experience.
18% of undergraduate students at UD are members of a Fraternity/Sorority
SCHOLARSHIP
Academic achievement is the cornerstone for an individual's future success. The Fraternity/Sorority community at UD is committed to creating an environment conducive to learning and attaining scholastic goals.
This is exemplified by the fact that the all sorority average is consistently
above the all female average.
SOCIAL AND FRIENDSHIP
The social life in a fraternity/sorority helps the student develop a sense of poise, personality and social graces, all of which are helpful later in life. The ability to function comfortably in a social environment will prove very important in developing the whole person. Being a member of a group of people will allow the individual to share common interests and develop friendships within the fraternity/sorority community. Along with building awareness, social events also serve as an enjoyable aspect of college life. Fraternities/Sororities at UD sponsor date parties, socials with one another, and formals to name a few. All fraternity and sorority chapters are required to conduct ongoing education to promote the responsible use of alcohol while abiding by city, state and federal laws.
76% of US Senators are fraternity/sorority members
FINANCIAL OBLIGATIONS
Financial requirements are an important consideration for students interested in participating in the fraternity/sorority community. Each fraternity/sorority is self-supporting from dues paid by its members. Dues and fees vary for each chapter and from year to year. The expenses involved in being a member include: semester dues, social dues, insurance, house/parlor fees, inter/national dues and other fees. During the first year of membership, the expense is usually greater due to the new member fees, initiation and pin/badge fees that are incurred during this period.
