Social fraternities and sororities have been a vital part of the
University of Dayton since 1933 and have been formally recognized since 1967. They provide a small group living experience that enhances the extracurricular life of every involved student through academic, social, educational, leadership, and community service activities. There are both national and local
fraternities and national sororities on campus. Currently, the 11 fraternities and
9 sororities comprise 15% of the undergraduate population. The Interfraternity, National Pan-Hellenic and Panhellenic councils have official responsibility for governing their respective groups and maintaining communication. These councils strive to insure the highest level of student life through their programs and activities. A goal of each council is to promote fraternities and sororities as a fun and exciting lifestyle at the University of Dayton. Fraternities and sororities at UD are a part of Leadership Development office in the Student Development division of the University. Sarah Schoper, Assistant Dean of Students and Associate Director of Leadership Programs is the full time staff member that is responsible for supervising, advising and providing direction for the organizations.
