Alternate and Replacement Jurors

    This table shows you how states deal with replacing grand jurors who have to be excused from serving.  If a states has alternate grand jurors impaneled when a grand jury is convened, the column on the left tells you how many alternates are chosen.  If a state replaces grand jurors "as needed", the letters AN appear in this column.  If a state's laws do not specify how grand jurors are replaced, the letters NS appear in this column.
