CONSTITUTION OF THE UNIVERSITY OF DAYTON COLLEGE DEMOCRATS
ARTICLE I
NAME
The name of this organization is the University of Dayton College Democrats.
ARTICLE II
PURPOSE
The purpose of this organization is
- to encourage participation of students in the political process
- to develop leadership skills among members
- contribute to the well being of the campus community at large
- and to further the goals of the Democratic Party.
ARTICLE III
MEMBERSHIP
Membership shall be open to those students who believe in and adhere to the principles of the Democratic Party, who are registered to vote (if of age), and who meet the qualifications set forth in the By-Laws.
ARTICLE IV
YEAR
For all purposes, fiscal or otherwise, the year shall begin on the first day of classes of the fall term and conclude the day before the beginning of the next fall term.
ARTICLE V
AFFILIATION
The University of Dayton College Democrats will be affiliated with the Ohio Young Democrats; Ohio College Democrats may seek affiliation with other recognized Young Democrats or related organizations, which have similar purposes.
ARTICLE VI
ELECTIONS
Section 1. Elected Positions
The officers of this organization will be duly elected by the membership and consist of President, Vice-President, Secretary, Treasurer, and Political Director.
Section 2. Prerequisite to Nomination and Election
All officers and candidates for office must be members in good standing at the time of their nomination and election and remain so throughout their term of office, as well as meeting any requirements set forth in the By-Laws.
Section 3. Vacancies
If a vacancy occurs in the office of President, the Vice-President shall serve as President for the remainder of the term. A vacancy occurring in any other office shall be appointed by the President, with the approval of the Executive Committee as set forth in the By-Laws.
ARTICLE VII
EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE
Section 1. Composition of the Executive Committee
The Executive Committee will consist of the five (5) elected officers.
Section 2. Duties
The Executive Committee's duties will be to:
- formulate and propose policies for the organization
- to fill vacancies
- and make recommendations to the organization.
Section 3. Meetings
- Meetings of the Executive Committee will be held bi-weekly at an agreed upon time.
- A quorum of the Executive Committee will be at least sixty percent (3/5) of that committee.
- No official action can be taken by the Executive Committee without a quorum.
ARTICLE VIII
OTHER COMMITTEES
Section 1. Standing Committees
All Standing Committees and their duties shall be duly listed in the By-Laws.
Section 2. Ad Hoc Committees
Other committees shall be appointed on an ad hoc basis as needed. Their duties duration of existence shall be set by the President, with the approval of the Executive Committee as set forth in the By-Laws.
ARTICLE IX
GENERAL MEETINGS
Section 1. Meetings
Meetings will be set by the Executive Committee as needed.
Section 2. Quorum
- There must be at least eight (8) regular members present at a general meeting to have a quorum.
- No official action may be taken without a quorum.
ARTICLE X
AMENDMENTS
Section 1. Notice of Amendments
Amendment(s) may be proposed verbally or in writing at any general membership meeting or presented in writing to the Secretary. Notice of such amendment(s) will be submitted in writing to the general membership at least one (1) meeting prior to the scheduled date of the meeting at which said amendment(s) are to be voted on.
Section 2. Passage of Amendments
This constitution may be amended at any general membership meeting with a quorum, by two-thirds vote.
