Abstract
I will discuss how data sources such as Wikipedia and Wiktionary are used to extract information usable in Artificial Intelligence applications. Additionally, I talk about my research of the use of Wikipedia to determine word relatedness and its application areas of synonym detection and query expansion for information retrieval.
About the speaker:
Timothy Weale is a Ph.D. candidate in the Department of Computer Science and Engineering at the Ohio State University where he works in the SLATE lab. His current research activities are in the area of natural language processing. Weale has a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science from the University of Dayton, May 2003.
