Retirement reception for Dr. Lang

The Department of Computer Science will host a reception today in the foyer to the Science Center auditorium (SC 114) at 3:30pm in honor of Dr. Lang's retirement in May 2008 after 27 years of service at the University of Dayton. Alumni and friends are welcome.

UD CPS alumnus returns to give talk.

2003 UD CPS alumnus Timothy Weale returned to UD today to give talk in our colloquium series on measuring word relatedness, the topic of his Ph.D. dissertation researech. Weale is currently enrolled in the graduate program in computer science at the Ohio State University. He is a May 2003 graduate of our department.

UD CPS alumnus returns to give talk.

2006 UD CPS alumnus Scott Reynolds returned to UD today to give talk in our colloquium series on collaborative filtering research, the topic of his Masters thesis. Reynolds is currently enrolled in the graduate program in computer science at the University of Cincinnati and intends to defend his thesis in May 2008. He is a May 2006 graduate of our department.

Promotions in the CPS department.

Dr. Lang has been promoted to Emeritus faculty, and Dr. Courte has been been promoted to Associate Professor and granted probationary tenure.

Dr. Gowda on sabbatical leave for the Winter 2008 semester.

Dr. Raghava Gowda is on sabbital leave for the Winter 2008 semester pursing software engineering research with the local software companies in the greater Dayton area. He will return to UD in the Fall 2008 semester.

UD programming team competes in annual competition

This year's programming team (Christopher Pitstick, Michael Lucas, and Andrea Calvo) competed in the Annual ACM International Collegiate Programming Contest, East Central North American Region which was hosted at the University of Cincinnati on November 10, 2007. The team was co-coached by Drs. Courte and Perugini.

Recent articles by CPS faculty

Dr. Sri's research on weakly chordal graphs is published in ACM Transactions on Algorithms: R. B. Hayward, J. P. Spinrad, and R. Sritharan (2007), Improved algorithms for weakly chordal graphs. ACM Transactions on Algorithms, 3(2), 19 pp. Dr. Perugini's research on symbolic links in the Open Directory Project has been accepted for publication into Information Processing and Management and is scheduled to appear in 2008.
