Apply for the ILLC
The ILLC is a group of 90 students living together in Garden Apartments as part of an environment which supports and nurtures students’ international and intercultural interests. Residents participate in international dinners, discussions and off-campus excursions as they explore the many different cultures found at the University of Dayton. As the global crossroads on campus, ILLC residents include students from across the country and around the world.

The ILLC aims to:
  1. Cultivate intercultural competence and sensitivity among residents.
  2. Educate residents for global citizenship through scholarship and collective inquiry.
  3. Foster relationship development among residents from different cultural backgrounds.
Interested students are encouraged to meet with current students or contact Tricia Barger, ILLC Coordinator, at x94283 or tbarger@udayton.edu

Member of the International Learning and Living Community are expected to:
  • Attend the fall weekend retreat (held in September, 2010) and the end-of-the-year celebration in the spring (Spring 2011).
  • Participate in monthly international meals and programs.
  • Support internationalization and intercultural dialogue in one of the following ways:
    • Active participation in ILLC events and dialogues
    • Membership in the ILLC Leadership Team (Community Assistant, ILLC activity planning, Fall Retreat planning or cultural dialogue planning).
    • Participation in other intercultural opportunities on campus including membership in the International Club or volunteering as a conversation partner or tutor for the Intensive English Program.

Housing Information
The ILLC is housed in Garden Apartments, located at 343 and 345 E. Stewart. There are 23 apartments of four students each. The Resident Assistant and Resident Coordinator also live in one of the two buildings.
  1. Students may apply as a single individual or as a group. Groups must consist of no more than two students from the same country.
  2. Sophomores, juniors and seniors may apply.
  3. All members must be and remain in good university academic and disciplinary standing.
  4. Students studying abroad in the second semester must notify the ILLC coordinator as soon as possible. Remaining roommates may suggest a prospective replacement. However, a replacement for any member must submit an ILLC application and be approved by the ILLC committee. Students studying abroad in the first semester and wishing to live in the ILLC for the second semester may be put on a waiting list for the second semester by contacting Tricia Barger at tbarger@udayton.edu. These requests must be in writing.
Application process
A three-step process is required to live in the ILLC:
  1. Completion of online Residential Living Contract
  2. Completion of ILLC Application form (PDF or MSWord)
  3. If you are applying as a group of two, three or four, your group must complete the online Group Registration. (Groups may consist of no more than two students from the same country.)
Students will only be able to participate in one housing application process at a time. Students will need to determine which community they want to live in and participate in that special interest housing application process only.

All forms and applications listed above must be completed and submitted by January 7, 2010 at 4:30 pm.
  1. Careful thought should be given to the essay questions provided in the ILLC Application Form. Decisions on acceptance to the ILLC will be made based on these essays.
  2. Interviews may be part of the application process, depending on demand and housing committee deliberations.
  3. All applicants will be notified no later than January 25, 2010. Thus, students who are not successful in obtaining an ILLC apartment can still participate in the general student Lottery process.
