| History
Building on a strong history of collaboration
and common mission, the Presidents of the three Marianist
Universities launched the Association of Marianist Universities
(AMU) in August 2003. The planning for AMU began in 1999,
as the Presidents realized that they were facing new challenges
in sustaining the Marianist educational tradition on each
of their campuses. With this in mind, they initiated conversations
to discuss the mutual interests and concerns of the Marianist
Universities. These conversations coincided with the changing
structure of the sponsoring organization. In 2002, the Society
of Mary consolidated their four provinces into one. A working
draft of the constitution of the AMU was developed and distributed.
Consultation between the Universities as well as on the campuses
of each institution resulted in the formation and approval
of the Association of Marianist Universities.
For over fourteen years, the Marianist Universities have been
supporting one another through a variety of collaborative
efforts and annual meetings. Each university remains committed
to partnering with its sister institutions. Establishing the
Association of Marianist Universities provides a new strategy
in which to achieve these initiatives.
