VEHICLE USE PROGRAM 

Program Description

The University of Dayton Vehicle Use and Driver Training Policy is established as part of the continuing efforts to improve the safety of University faculty, staff, and students who operate University insured vehicles, to reduce the risk of injury and/or loss to the University and to enhance University insurability.

Policy and Requirements

Any individual who needs to drive an insured University owned vehicle (owned, leased or rentals for University business) is required to complete the training and insurance requirements according to the following specifications below in order to receive approval for driving University vehicles:

  • Students - are required to take the driver training session each year
  • University personnel that operate or could be called upon to operate a University insured vehicle on a regular basis as part of their job description (i.e. Public Safety, Facilities Management, Central Receiving, Udit, Delivery Drivers, etc.) - are required to take the driver training session each year  
  • All other University personnel (staff, faculty and other related persons) - are required to take the driver training every 3 years

Training

Environmental Health & Safety/Risk Management offers classroom training and online training available to employees and students for insurability.

Additional Information

  • If you are driving a University owned vehicle and are in an accident, please view the information regarding the proper procedure for reporting accidents involving University of Dayton Insured Vehicles.

  • If you have additional questions regarding insurance coverage, would like to know when you last took this training or need an insurance card prior to a trip, please feel free to contact our office at 937-229-4503 and we will gladly help you.
