Colombia

Colombia is in the north-western part of South America and is the only country with a coast line both on the Atlantic Ocean and the Pacific Ocean.  The country can be divided into three land regions; the Coastal Lowlands contain farm lands, cities, plantations, and cattle ranches.  The Pacific Lowlands consist of swamps and dense forest, and the Andes Mountains cover about a third of the country.  The equator  crosses the southern part of Colombia; there parts of the country have a chilly climate due to the high altitude.  Colombia was named after the explorer, Christopher Columbus.  Most of the people live in the Andes Mountains basins and valleys which are in the  western part of the country. Colombia is a Spanish-speaking country and they consider their Spanish purer than any other Latin-American countries.   Colombia began printing their stamps in 1859, and then in 1938 they began printing stamps of Mary.
