Our Lady of CzestochowaThe history of Our Lady of Czestochowa is inseparable from a venerable icon honored at the monastery of monks of Saint Paul the Hermit on Jasna Gora (Hill of Light). In the people’s mind the image is one of the many attributed to St. Luke, carved into the top of a table built by St. Joseph for the Holy Family. The Madonna of Czestochowa belongs to representations of the Virgin known as ‘Hodgitria’, i.e. Mary pointing with her right hand to the Holy Infant held in her left.
