The
Virgin of Medjugorje—On the afternoon of June 24, 1981, fifteen-year-old Ivanka Ivankovic and her one year
older friend Mirjana Dragicevic saw what they claim to be an apparition of Mary.
Marija and Milka Pavlovic, Vicka Ivankovic, Jakov Colo, Ivan Dragicevic and Ivan
Ivankovic soon joined them. Some of these visionaries receive regular
apparitions and messages to this day. The church has not made a final statement
regarding their authenticity. The continuous flow of pilgrims from all over the
world however, attest to the statement by Archbishop Franic of Bosnia: “The
happenings in Medjugorje have done more for the world’s faith than all the
pastoral work of the last fifty years.”
