E. MAGNIFICATS

1. CHANT

MAGNIFICAT:
Magnificat anima mea Dominum.
Et exultavit spiritus meus in Deo salutari meo.
Quia respexit humilitatem ancillae suae: ecce enim ex hoc Beatam me dicent omnes generationes.
Quia fecit mihi magna qui potens est: et sanctum nomen ejus.
Et misericordia ejus a progenie in progenies timentibus eum.
Fecit potentiam in brachio quo: dispersit superbos mente cordis sui.
Deposuit potentes desede, et exaltavit humiles
Esurientes implevit bonis: et divites dimisit inanes.
Suscepit Israel puerum suum, recordatus misericordiae suae.
Sicut locutus est ad patres nostros, Abraham et semini ejus in saecula.
Gloria Patri, et Filio, et Spiritui Sancto.
Sicut erat in principio, et nunc, et semper, et in saecula saeculorum. Amen.
LIBER, PP. 207-218

2. TRADITIONAL

CANTICLE OF MARY:
My soul gives glory to the Lord, In God my Savior I rejoice. My lowliness he did regard, Exalting me by his own choice. From this day all shall call me blest, For he has done great things for me, Of all great name his is the best, For it is holy; strong is he.
His mercy goes to all who fear, From age to age and to all parts. His arm of strength to all is near; He scatters those who have proud hearts. He casts the mighty from their thrones And raises those of low degree; He feeds the hungry as his own, The rich depart in poverty.
He raised his servant Israel, Rememb'ring his eternal grace, As from of old he did foretell To Abraham and all his race. O Father, Son and Spirit blest, In threefold Name are you adored, To you be ev'ry prayer addressed, From age to age the only Lord.
(Collegeville #433)

MAGNIFICAT:
My heart extols the Lord, my God. My joy is God my Savior. He looks upon his humble maid, with love and gentle favor. Now all the earth from this great day will call me happy daughter: The mighty God his servant found, and wondrous graces brought her.
His name the Holy, great his love Through countless generations. His mercy is from age to age on all God-fearing nations. With mighty arm he shows his pow'r, he strikes the proud, they crumble. The rulers of the land deposed, the Lord enthrones the humble.
He fills the hungry, and the poor He lavishes with plenty. But rich and greedy ones are doomed, for these he exiles empty. God's mercy comes to Israel and Abraham's great nation. From promise made in ancient days to endless generations.
(Collegeville #434)

I EXULT FOR JOY IN THE LORD:
I exult for joy in the Lord, my soul rejoices in my God; for He has clothed me in the robe of salvation and wrapped me in the mantle of justice, like a bridegroom wearing his wreath, like a bride adorned in her jewels.

MARY'S SONG:
My soul doth glory in your love, O Lord. My soul doth glory in your love, O Lord. For you gazed on your servant with compassion, And you reached out and took me by the hand.
Great is our God and holy is his name. His mercy reaches to the end of time. Ah, the lowly he raises to the heavens, And the proudhearted have no part with him.
Ah, how he fills the hungry with his love. With empty hands the rich are sent away. He will always be mindful of his mercy, As he promised our fathers long ago.
My soul doth glory in your love, O Lord. My soul doth glory in your love, O Lord. For you smiled on your servant with compassion And you reached out and took me by the hand.
(Journey #600)

My soul proclaims the Lord my God, My spirit sings his praise. He looks on me, he lifts me up, And gladness fills my days.
All nations now will share my joy; His gifts he has outpoured. His little one he has made great. I magnify the Lord.
For those who love his holy name, His mercy will not die. His strong right arm puts down the proud, And lifts the lowly high.
He fills the hungry with good things; The rich he sends away. The promise made to Abraham is filled to endless day.

My soul gives glory to my God. My heart pours out its praise. God lifted up my lowliness in many marvelous ways.
My God has done great things for me: yes, holy is this name. All people will declare me blessed, and blessings they shall claim.
From age to age, to all who fear, such mercy love imparts, dispensing justice far and near, dismissing selfish hearts.
Love cases the mighty from their thrones, promotes the insecure, leaves hungry spirits satisfied, the rich seem suddenly poor.
Praise God, who loving covenant supports those in distress, remembering past promises with present faithfulness.

(Presbyterian #600)

MY SOUL NOW MAGNIFIES THE LORD:
My soul now magnifies the Lord; My spirit leaps for joy in him. He keeps me in his kind regard, And I am blest for time to come.
For he alone who shows such might Has done amazing thing to me. His mercy flow; his name like light Remains in time perpetually.
His arm is strong; his strength is great. He scatters those of proud intent, And casts them down from high estate; Then gives the low his nourishment.
He feeds the hungry as his own; The wealthy leave with empty hands. He gives his help to Israel; His gracious promise always stands.

To me has God shown favor, to one the world thought frail, and ev'ry age will echo the angel's fair "All hail."
God's mercy shields the faithful and save them from defeat, with strength that turns to scatter the proud in their conceit.
The mighty have been vanquished, the lowly lifted up. The hungry find abundance, the rich, an empty cup.
