The Implementation of the Marian Quest in
the Life of the Faithful -- Mary and Youth

by Klaus Dick, Auxiliary Bishop[1]

John Paul II’s statement that “Mary is the youth of the Church” implies that for him Marian piety and young people in the church converge. The question is whether this is also a reality in the consciousness of young people. The author answers with six theses:

  1. Generally it is wrong to say that young people are enthused about John Paul II but less concerned in adhering to his teaching.
  2. The Marian disposition of young people depends on their concrete faith and belonging to the church.
  3. In teaching our young people the axiom cunctas haereses interemisti is verified. Authentic church teaching cannot be conveyed without the correct understanding of the person and mission of the Blessed Virgin Mary.
  4. Regarding the Blessed Virgin Mary young people need authentic witness.
  5. The most precious thing a Christian can offer to others is Truth.
  6. All teachers of young people have to call a deep love for Mary their own.
