Q: Is it appropriate to pray to or think of Mary as "Saint" Mary?

A: Yes, it is appropriate to think of the Virgin Mary as a saint. The term saint designates a special relationship of the creature with God. Jesus Christ made us all saints through his redemption. Sainthood is a vocation we have to deepen and develop. Mary, thanks to her vocation as Mother of the Lord, has received special graces of sainthood (Immaculate Conception) which were augmented through her life in intense conformity with the will of God and the guidance of the Spirit. Mary is the first and most perfect of all of God's saints.
