Regina Sanctorum
Omnium
Queen of All Saints
Mary is like the moon among lesser stars
("Velut inter stellas luna minores"), meaning she is the
greatest of all saints. This idea is reinforced with still another
inscription, "Super eminet omnes." Mary exceeds all other saints
in holiness.
The figure of Mary is dressed in queenly
apparel. She is surrounded by saints offering their crowns to her
in a gesture of reverence. We are able to make out the following:
Noah, Peter, Laurentius, Agnes, David and a sixth nondescript saint.
Countless other saints are gathered around an angel offering Mary the
imperial crown placed on a cushion.
Mary's pre-eminent holiness is again
highlighted in the lemma, "The mount of the Lord's house
shall be higher than the mountains" (Micah 4:1).
