Madonna of the wheat, bless the grain which becomes our daily bread,
so there will be enough bread for all, and none will go hungry.

(Mieczyslaw Gogacz, Litania kwiatow do Matki Bozej)

The Madonna stands in a typical Polish rural scene. Commonly bordering the fields of wheat in Poland are wild red poppies, blue cornflowers, and white daisies. Satisfaction radiates on Mary’s face as she holds her Son who blesses the golden grain. The laughing animals know there will be enough for everyone.
