Mary walks through the deep forest, holding her Son, wrapped in cocoon-like swaddling clothes, close to her heart. The Madonna’s cape and the Child’s wrappings are green, the universal color of nature, symbolizing hope. The folds of Mary’s cape form a crescent at her feet. Mother and Child wear crowns of berry-like jewels, indicating their kingship and queen ship over all of nature. The Madonna presents her Son, the Word, who is the Light of the World, to all of creation.
