Madonna Crewel Design

The June 1997 edition of Needle Arts has a design of the Madonna and Child for those skilled in crewel. In her article, Bette Elovitz demonstrates the techniques used. She writes, "The Madonna and Child are worked in whipped-chain stitch, satin, split, soft shading, and raised-chain stitch..." (pp. 35-37) Bette Elovitz is a teacher who lives in Highland Beach, Florida.

Crux of the News

Crux of the News reported in its June 16, 1997 that a procession of 30,000 persons marched through Minsk, Belarus this year. The procession was headed by an icon of Our Lady of Chernobyl. The original had been destroyed in 1996 by security forces.

The Mariological Society of America met in San Antonio, Texas at the end of May. Plans are underway for the next three years' sessions. In 1999, the Mariological Society will celebrate its fiftieth anniversary. 1998-2000 will be considered as one great jubilee event.
