Radio Maria Seeing Worldwide Success
Catholic Station Now in Fifty-Four Countries
Source: Zenit (Madrid) September 28, 2010
The Catholic broadcasting company, Radio Maria, continues to grow worldwide,
now present in fifty four nations with sixty five new broadcasting stations in various languages. Recently, the Catholic chain has
been welcomed in Switzerland, Slovakia and Ukraine.
Three new broadcasting stations in the United States have also been incorporated to
the Global Family of Radio Maria: in Washington, Boston, and an additional one in Chicago for Italian-speaking listeners.
Moreover, within the campaign United in Communion--a project of the Global Family of Radio Maria to help its expansion on the
African continent--Cameroon will be the next broadcasting station to be incorporated in the worldwide network....
The director and editors of The Mary Page under the auspices of the
International Marian Research Institute do not necessarily endorse or agree with
the events and ideas expressed in this feature. Our sole purpose is to report on
items about Mary gleaned from a myriad of papers representing the secular press.
Obama's Devotion to the Virgin Mary: Who Knew?
Source: Politics Daily (politicsdaily.com) September 28, 2010
Somehow this slipped past the Disputations filter, but during her vacation in Spain in August, First Lady, Michelle Obama, revealed that
her husband, a.k.a. President Obama, "always carries a picture of Mary Help of Christians in his wallet."
Mary Help of Christians is the patroness of the Salesian order of priests and nuns, and during an August 13 visit to the Spanish city of
Ronda with her daughter, Sasha, the first lady stopped at the Salesian community there....
N.B. Jon Harvey, who has contributed several items to The Mary Page, informed us about this article, along with the following comments:
This article's reporting that Obama carries an image of Mary in his wallet is genuine, though it should not be concluded that he
shares all the Catholic beliefs or devotional practices regarding the Virgin Mary. Their source is another article which they link
to from the Salesian news service. The article also contains a link to a third article suggesting that Obama is a closet Roman
Catholic. That article is, however, a piece of political satire playing off of the fact that 20% of Americans believe him to be a
closet Muslim.
Also when Obama received on honorary doctorate from Notre Dame in Spring of 2009, he wore their robe with a prayer to the Virgin
Mary. See csnews/article/46844.
You are invited to help us pray for our Prayer Corner
intentions. Please take a look! This site has been updated and enhanced
and now allows users to directly submit prayer requests or to volunteer as a prayer partner for these intentions!
The Mary Page offers a variety of resources inviting study, reflection and
meditation. We also list important Marian dates for each month of the
year. Please see Marian Commemoration Days for the month of
October.
