32,000 Rosary Decades Offered for Pope's UK Visit
Donor: British Catholics Are Devoted to the Pontiff
Source: Zenit (London) September 6 2010
Over 32,000 rosary decades and 11,500 Masses will be offered for Benedict XVI's Sept. 16-19 visit to the United Kingdom.
Aid to the Church in Need reported that its
prayer and action campaign for the intention of the Pope's visit has seen an
"enthusiastic" response.
Neville Kyrke-Smith, the national director of the aid agency's U.K. branch, said,
"Whilst there has been much negativity in the secular media about the visit of
Pope Benedict, it is a fantastic sign of faith that the friends of Aid to the
Church in Need have renewed their commitment to pray for the Holy Father and the
suffering Church."
He noted that the spirit of Cardinal John Henry Newman, who will be beatified during the Pontiff's visit, is
"very much alive--the
generosity of so many Catholics speaks 'heart to heart' to all those who suffer
today."
"The commitment of prayer equates to over six months of continuous prayer," Kyrke-Smith affirmed....
The director and editors of The Mary Page under the auspices of the
International Marian Research Institute do not necessarily endorse or agree with
the events and ideas expressed in this feature. Our sole purpose is to report on
items about Mary gleaned from a myriad of papers representing the secular press.
Lourdes Give Me Strength; Pilgrim Coleen Smiles Again
Source: The Mirror (London) Fall 2010
It's a miracle. Coleen Rooney has a smile back on her face yesterday. Her pilgrimage to Lourdes, following revelations about her
husband Wayne's alleged fling with vice girls, seems to be performing wonders.
And it helps that Coleen is surrounded by Team McLoughlin at the French shrine. She and baby Kai were joined by dad Tony, mum Colette,
Auntie Jean and Wayne's Aunt Bridie.
To match the rest of the family, Coleen swapped her usual designer clothes for a personalized hooded jumper. A family source revealed
that Catholic Coleen, twenty-four, is in Lourdes to pray for adopted sister Rosie, twelve, who is in a hospital following a stroke
caused by the rare brain disorder, Rett syndrome.
You are invited to help us pray for our Prayer Corner
intentions. Please take a look! This site has been updated and enhanced
and now allows users to directly submit prayer requests or to volunteer as a prayer partner for these intentions!
The Mary Page offers a variety of resources inviting study, reflection and
meditation. We also list important Marian dates for each month of the
year. Please see Marian Commemoration Days for the month of
September.
