From the Marian Treasure Chest Using Marian Sacramentals (by Brother John Samaha, S.M.) Carrying a rosary, wearing a scapular or medal, offering certain prayers or honoring a sacred image do not guarantee that a person will automatically go to heaven. That belief would be superstition or presumption. Rather, such sacramentals and practices based on faith are meant to be signs that a person is intent on trying to be holy and virtuous, and to live the way Jesus taught in the Gospel. Alumni Update Sophia Choi is visiting The Marian Library November 10. Fr. John Theodore will be here from through October 30. Father R. K. Samy will also be here from November 15 to December 15. Current Exhibit! With The Eyes of the Heart The Marian Library gallery is showcasing Brazilian artist Sidney Matias' art, which is infused by Marianist spirituality. The exhibit will run from September 17 - November 17. Matias was honored at a reception at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 18, in the Marian Library lounge. Click here for a virtual exhibit. 24 wonderful Christmas cards per box available During the Christmas season, the Marian Library will be sponsoring a show of twenty-four works of art from the Pontifical Institute, Holy Childhood Association. These works were chosen from 10,000 entries! The Association sent us lots of cards in the hopes that we would sell them at $10 per box of twenty-four. They are large, fine quality cards! All funds will be sent to the Association--a mission society for the care of children.

On the Call to Martyrdom
This martyrdom of ordinary life is a particularly important witness in the
secularized societies of our time. It is the peaceful battle of love that all
Christians, like Paul, have to fight tirelessly; the race to spread the Gospel that commits us until death.
May Mary, Queen of Martyrs and Star of Evangelization, help us and assist us in our daily witness.
The director and editors of The Mary Page under the auspices of the
International Marian Research Institute do not necessarily endorse or agree with
the events and ideas expressed in this feature. Our sole purpose is to report on
items about Mary gleaned from a myriad of papers representing the secular press.
Berlin Student Finds Baroque
Painting Inside Old Sofa A Berlin student who bought a second-hand sofa bed at a flea market learned
that she had been sitting on a small fortune when she found a baroque painting
hidden inside the couch. The artwork fetched $27,660 in Hamburg after the
student discovered it. ... Experts believe the work, entitled "Preparations for the flight to Egypt,"
was painted between 1605 and 1610 by an unknown artists with ties to Venetian
painter, Carlo Saraceni.
