Call for Papers
Mary and Scripture Since Vatican II
Trends, Methods, and Reactions

Meeting of the Mariological Society of America
May 18-21, 2010

Plymouth, Michigan

A constant point of reference for the knowledge about Our Lady, Scripture and its interpretation act as a seismograph in determining contours and shades of our understanding of Mary. Thus, changing trends and varying methods of exegesis may have a non-negligible impact on our reading of Mary's person and role.

The 2010 annual convention of the Mariological Society of America (May 18-21) would like to explore the influence, results and reactions that recent trends and methods in exegesis may have had on Mariology since Vatican II. Some aspects of the study entail the following:

  • The use of exegesis in magisterial documents on Mary.

  • Important trends and/or methods in exegesis and their role in Mariology.

  • Individual authors (Mariologists) and their use of exegesis.

  • Results of and reactions to new exegetical approaches.

  • The impact of exegesis since Vatican II on the whole or aspects of Mariology.
