Artist's Statement
UNIVERSAL MOTHER
"The inspiration for this work comes from Mary's role of universal motherhood. I have stylized a number of scenes of mothers and their children from around the world. Centered in this array of mothers and children from many countries is an interpretation of a well-known Icon of Mary and the child, Jesus. The Vladimir Icon expresses that image of Mother and child that have been an inspiration to many generations of Christians throughout the world."
QUEEN OF CREATION
"The Queen of Creation image was created by using the discarded scraps of clay that I had gleaned from another piece of art work that I had been developing. I feel that this use of "unwanted" materials for the creation of another piece is fitting for a work entitled, "Queen of Creation," for that is often Mary's role in this world of ours. In other words, she discovers the beautiful in the discarded, the goodness in the outcast, the hope in the lost."
