Simple
Beauty Peter Palka Slovakia
This nativity set
by Slovakian artist Peter Palka was featured on the 1995 Slovakian Christmas
stamp. It is made of corn husk. Sometimes called the art of the poor, dolls are
made from readily available husks of different shades (yellow or reddish brown),
depending on the season. It may take as many as fifteen husks to make the body
of a doll, and up to thirty to dress it. The finished product, in this case, is
an artful creation of simple beauty and a true labor of love. It echoes another
labor of love, that of God made man. |
