Cometh My Help
I will lift up my eyes to the hills---From whence comes my help?
My help comes from the Lord, Who made Heaven and earth.
(Psalm 121:2 NKJ)
How this painting was made.
The first layers of color (pinks, oranges, blues, and greens) were dropped onto a piece of water-soaked Arches 140 Lb. Cold Press paper. I then immediately covered those initial colors with plastic wrap and let all of the paint dry. The patterning of the plastic wrap is most apparent on Christ's upper body. Once this paint layer was dry and I removed the plastic wrap; I realized this had to be a painting of Christ's resurrection superimposed over a background of hills and sunrise. I directly painted the sun at the top. I then began adding direct painting for the form of his head facing forward, and if you look carefully, you will also see I added a bowed version of his face below the face forward position. The Lord's body was not painted directly, but instead I painted negatively "around" the shape of the upper body and arms, which reach up to the hills.
This painting is sold, but giclees and notecards are available.
