The Apostolic Journey of Pope Benedict XVI to the United States
(April 15, 2008 through April 20, 2008)

The Pope will visit the U.S. from April 15, 2008 through April 20, 2008.  Departing from Rome early on Tuesday morning, he will arrive in Washington, D.C. that evening where an Arrival Ceremony will be held at the Airport.  The next day he will celebrate his eighty-first birthday with a Diplomatic Reception at the White House in the morning and an evening meeting with the American Bishops at the National Shrine of the Immaculate ConceptionOn Thursday, he will celebrate a Public Mass at the Washington Nationals Stadium at 10:30 am.  That evening he plans to meet with Presidents of Catholic Colleges at the Catholic University of America and later meet with representatives of other religions at the John Paul II Cultural Center.  Friday morning he departs the capital for New York City where he will speak to the United Nations at 10:45 am.  That evening he will address representatives of other Christian traditions at the Church of Saint Joseph in Manhattan.  On Saturday he will mark the third anniversary of his election to the papacy with a Solemn Pontifical Mass at the Cathedral of Saint Patrick at 9:15.  That afternoon he plans to meet with disabled children and other young people as well as with seminarians on the grounds of Saint Joseph’s SeminarySunday, the final day of his visit, will open with a visit to “Ground Zero” at the World Trade Center site.  At 2:30 pm he will celebrate a Public Solemn Pontifical Mass at Yankee Stadium.  Kennedy Airport will host a Departure Ceremony before he leaves around 8 pm.
